My Story

Irizar Valentina is quiet and gentle, often standing back before joining in — but when she’s on the swings, you’ll see a small spark of joy break through. She’s Luz Maria’s little sister, and both girls attend Open Arms, where they’ve finally found a place of peace.

Irizar Valentina’s earliest memories are marked by fear. While her mother was pregnant with her, the home was filled with violence. After she was born, the shouting never stopped — day after day, her world was filled with pain. The trauma has left her feeling insecure and hesitant to connect. But little by little, we’re seeing her laugh, play, and trust again.
