La Mision
Sofia has three sisters (Arleth, Arcelia, and Esmeralda) who also attend the daycare. Her mom works at a local hotel to provide for her family. She loves going to school. She likes to jump rope and dance. Sofia s very mature for her age. Despite the hardship of escaping her abusive father with her mother and three sisters, she saw firsthand what happened and knows why they had to leave. Her mother finally found the courage to leave their dangerous situation, and Sofia and her siblings were forced to move from southern Mexico to La Mision to escape their abusive father. They came to the only family they have, Maricela, our cook in La Mision. Eight years ago, it was Maricela who came to us with a very similar story, and she naturally turned to us to offer the same love and help for her sister. Maricela pleaded with us to take Sofia and her sisters, and we, of course, said yes. Sofia is now safe at Open Arms while her mom is at her new job. She is going to the local school and learning all about the love of God at the daycare. She loves to play outside in the playhouse. Her bright personality has quickly made her friends with the kids at the daycare. Help us pray that Sofia can heal from all she has been through, that she can enjoy feeling safe and being a kid, and that she and her family would come to follow Jesus.
